Foil Greenhouse

Fruits, vegetables, herbs and ornamental plants are often cultivated in foil tunnels. Since there is no natural precipitation within the tunnel irrigation is required. Optimal irrigation is always controlled by continuous measurement of soil moisture. Also, temperature is an important parameter for the growth of plants and is measured. Heating systems are often turned at the beginning of the season to promote plant growth.

Lavender Cultivation

The Provence in France is one of the main areas for growing lavender. In large-scale monocultures different varieties are grown for the perfume industry and as a drug. Lots of sun and an optimized irrigation is beneficial for the growth and the quality of the harvest. Strong and healthy plants are also less susceptible to pest infestation. The robust and reliable soil moisture sensor SMT100 can be repositioned each season several times and delivers accurate measurement results for an optimized irrigation scheme.

Straw Moisture

The straw moisture is an important parameter for assessing the quality and shelf life of straw. Only when moisture levels below about 15% the straw can be stored safely. While other sensors are often only intended for occasional measurements, the SMT100 allows for continuous monitoring and real time Internet access to measurement data together with the TrueLog100 GSM data logger. This way the drying process can be observed and optimal storage conditions achieved.

Tomatoe Cultivation

In the supermarket, there are year-round fresh fruit and vegetables. We are used to be buy tomatoes in any season. Many tomatoes are grown under glass in large and specialized farms. The plants often grown on substrates like rockwool or perlite and are supplied with a nutrient solution. In order to achieve optimal growth and best quality tomatoes, extensive automation is required. The soil moisture sensor SMT100 together with a special calibration can be used to measure the water content in these special substrates and can thus provide important data for the automated watering of the plants.

Asparagus Cultivation

Asparagus grows particularly well at temperatures of about 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. Therefore farmers cover the soil with foils of tow different colors in order to adjust the temperature. The black side is turned outwards when heating by the sun is desired. The white side is turned outwards to protect against too much sun.

Viniculture

Up to 2002 irrigation in viticulture was heavily regulated in Germany. Since changing the legal situation it can be observed that more and more vineyards are equipped with drip irrigation systems. Irrigation is helpful not only in extremely dry summers, but generally recommended to increase grape quality and allow more rapid breeding of seedlings.
